Blue shirting

Blue shirts are the most versatile shirts – blue matches everything and a blue shirt will always look great under layers or worn alone with a tie and jacket. It seems like a simple, plain option for a shirt, but it will be the most wearable shirt in your closet.

Oxford cloth is a heavier cotton fabric often woven on a basketweave pattern. It’s an especially great fabric to wear in fall and winter. Chambray is a lighter cotton fabric frequently woven with a plain weave. It became popular a few years ago as a fabric commonly used in workwear shirting, but now there are many more options for more tailored chambray shirting.

*These five shirts, though cut on the slim side, all run true to size, but definitely take a look at the measurements to get an idea of each shirt's fit nuances. Take a shirt that fits you well, lay it flat, and measure the length from shoulder to shoulder, armpit to armpit, and shoulder seam to cuff. You'll have a much better idea of whether a shirt that you really like is the right shirt for your body and build.

2. Lumina Clothing: Graham Shirt – Classic Oxford

I first found out about Lumina when I stumbled on their tote bags while rounding up a few affordable options for a friend, and was impressed by the materials and price. Lumina is based in Raleigh, North Carolina, and produces a full line of clothing, including sweaters, pants, and accessories. Their blue oxford is very well priced for being a nice quality made-in-the-USA shirt and will not disappoint.

Part of their in-house brand, Lyonstate’s button down chambray has the hue of a blue oxford with the softness of a chambray. It’s something that will be perfect for the winter months and you can keep wearing it as the temperatures rise in the spring.

4. J.Press York Street: Russell Chambray in Blue

I've got an indigo chambray shirt similar to this one, and it is possibly the shirt I wear most. I normally don’t stock up on the same thing twice, but I have a couple of shirts in this indigo chambray fabric because I know I’m going to want to wear them all the time. J.Press York Street is a newer incarnation of J.Press, aimed at a clientele wanting more modern cuts. Don’t be put off by the similarity of the color to your jeans – they are different hues and will look awesome together. You’re going to want to wear this one every day.

5. Gitman Vintage: Classic Blue Oxford

Probably the nicest oxford you can buy, with an impeccable fit. A favorite.
